HWT

The occupational therapy team at Child and Family Development offers a therapeutic curriculum that teaches pre-printing, printing and cursive writing skills to children of all abilities.  It is called Handwriting Without Tears® (HWT)

HWT was developed by an Occupational Therapist using child-friendly language, child development concepts and fun teaching techniques.  All of the HWT techniques are developmentally based, which means that a child builds upon the skills he has mastered.  It is a multi-sensory approach that incorporates posture, balance, control and movement, coordination as well as perception and memory.

HWT can be taught in an individual or group setting.  Special equipment designs include Practice Letters, Puppets, Slate Chalkboards, Stamps, See Screens™, Paper and Writing Utensil Modifications.

Children of all learning styles and ability levels learn to write neatly and efficiently to make handwriting a natural skill.

Their website contains more detailed information about the protocol and equipment: www.hwtears.com
