Hi, I just set up this blog through my employer-- Child and Family Development, in Charlotte, NC-- and I am excited! So, I am a Speech Therapist with 3.5 years experience, since graduating with a Master's Degree from Appalachian State University in December 2006, and with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Studies and Emphasis in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1997. My clinical experience includes working with children identified with an array of language developmental delays, sound production difficulty, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger's Syndrome, Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD, ADHD), Dyslexia, learning disabilities, stuttering, motor speech disorders, vocal nodules, and feeding/swallowing difficulties. I have also worked with adults wishing to reduce their non-English accents in the workplace. Now that I work at a multi-disciplinary practice, clientele are comprised of those potentially seeking multiple services (e.g., physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, as well as psychological and/or educational assessment).
One of my favorite things about what I do is the opportunity I thankfully get to share my passion for life's experiences with others in fun, creative ways, especially with children, because their unabashed honesty, insight and ability to communicate (whatever the mode). I find to be fascinating, educational, and absolutely rewarding!
