I am very excited to announce a new group class that will be offered at Child and Family Development called Baby's Home, Now What?. I cannot count the number of times that a mother or father has said to me, "Wow if I had known exactly what my child was supposed to be doing, we would have noticed a delay so much sooner!"
Often, a child is referred to our office for physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech therapy after a well-child visit at the pediatrician. Many pediatricians are now using the Ages and Stages questionnaire to monitor a child's development motorically and determine if a therapy screening is recommended. Due to the infrequency of well child visits, sometimes what seems like a small delay can become a large delay by the following well child visit. Any intervention between those visits could have already negated the delay!
Another common scenario is that a delay is present only because of lack of exposure to a new activity or motor demand. By providing the child with these opportunities in therapy and home programs, 'catch up' occurs and and the child is performing skills at age appropriate levels.
So, the C&FD pediatric therapy team was inspired to offer a class to parents with young children age 0 - 2 years. Our team of childhood development experts introduce the important developmental milestones and foundational activities necessary to ensure the child develops at or above age appropriate levels.
Spread the word to other parents of little ones! More information can be found on our website, www.childandfamilydevelopment.com.
Spots are still available in our July and August sessions.
