Additional Training in Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing Difficulties

Friday, August 3, 2012 by Barbara Hartshorn

Recently, I had the opportunity to advance my clinical skills in the area of feeding and swallowing by attending a seminar presented by Catherine Shaker MS/CCC-SLP and Theresa Gager MS/CCC-SLP titled Pediatric Swallowing/Feeding: The Essentials.  They provided me with more tools and knowledge to become a problem solver when assessing infants and children that present with a variety of feeding difficulties.

The presenters were wonderful and provided me with knowledge that I was able to apply right away when I returned to my work at Child and Family Development.

What is often thought of as simply eating is actually a very complex skill that most of us do every day without much thought.  Eating is actually the most complex “act” your body goes through on a daily basis.

I am excited to expand my expertise in this area in order to assist children and their families to enjoy mealtime.
